Everything to do with your plan lives in billing. Here is what each action does, and when it takes effect.

Upgrading

Upgrades take effect immediately: the new lane's surfaces, limits and features apply at once, and your coverage tops up to the new allowance.

Upgrade when you are constrained by something structural, which usually means surfaces, workspaces, the Intelligence layer, or an integration you need. Upgrade for coverage only after you have retired the prompts that never produced anything. See coverage and credits.

Downgrading

Downgrades take effect at the end of the current period, so you keep what you paid for until then.

Check three things before you do it:

1. Surfaces. A lower lane may not monitor all seven. Prompts on a dropped surface stop being checked, and history is kept but stops accumulating.
2. Workspaces. If you have more workspaces than the lower lane allows, sort that out first rather than discovering it at the boundary.
3. The Intelligence layer. Intelligence, Trace and Industry Pulse are Scale and Enterprise.

Annual billing

Annual is charged as ten months, so two are free. Switching to annual takes effect at the change; switching back applies at the end of the annual term.

Cancelling

Cancellation stops the renewal. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.

What happens to your data:

• Historical citations, answers and changes stay with the workspace.
• Monitoring stops, so nothing new accumulates.
• Reports and exports stop.

If you come back later, the history is still there, with a gap in it for the period you were away. Gaps are visible in trends, which is worth knowing before a board meeting six months later.

Trials

A paid plan starts with a free trial. The trial wallet is smaller than the full allowance, and the full grant lands when the trial converts on the first paid invoice.

For agencies

The same actions apply, and they apply to the whole account rather than per client, because clients are workspaces rather than subscriptions. See agency billing model.
