Manage Your Subscription

How to upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your Outercite plan from billing settings, and what changes at the next billing cycle.

You can change your Outercite plan at any time from billing settings. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades and cancellations apply at the end of your current billing cycle.

What you'll learn

  • How to upgrade your plan
  • How to downgrade or cancel
  • What happens to your data and keywords at each transition

Getting to billing settings

All subscription changes start in the same place:

  1. Log in to Outercite.
  2. Click Settings in the sidebar.
  3. Select Billing.

Open Billing Settings

Upgrading your plan

When you upgrade to a higher plan, the change is immediate. You get access to the new keyword allowance and any additional features right away.

You are charged a prorated amount for the remainder of the current billing period (the difference between your old plan and the new plan for the days remaining). Your next full invoice will reflect the new plan price.

To upgrade:

  1. On the Billing screen, click Upgrade Plan (or Change Plan).
  2. Select the plan you want to move to.
  3. Review the prorated charge summary.
  4. Confirm the upgrade.

Downgrading your plan

A downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing period, not immediately. Until the period ends, you keep full access to your current plan.

If your active keyword count exceeds the limit of the plan you are downgrading to, you will need to remove keywords before the downgrade takes effect. Outercite will prompt you to do this. If you do not resolve the excess, the downgrade may be blocked until you do.

To downgrade:

  1. On the Billing screen, click Change Plan.
  2. Select the lower plan.
  3. Review what changes (keyword limit, features).
  4. Confirm the downgrade. A confirmation banner will show the date the change takes effect.

Cancelling your subscription

Cancellation works the same way as a downgrade: it takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will not receive a refund for unused time, but you keep full access until the period ends.

After cancellation:

  • Your workspace and all citation history remain readable until the end of the period.
  • When the period closes, your account moves to a read-only or restricted state (exact behaviour shown on the cancellation confirmation screen).
  • You can reactivate at any time from the Billing screen.

To cancel:

  1. On the Billing screen, scroll to the bottom and click Cancel Plan (or Manage Subscription).
  2. You may be shown a retention offer. You can accept or continue with cancellation.
  3. Confirm the cancellation. You will receive an email confirmation.

Changed your mind after cancelling? You can reactivate at any point before the period ends (and sometimes after). The Billing screen will show a Reactivate button when cancellation is pending.

A note on agencies

If you are on an agency plan, subscription changes work differently and pricing is based on a wholesale model. See the Agency Billing Model for the details specific to agency accounts.
