Route Outercite citation alerts and surge notifications to a Slack channel so your team sees important changes immediately.
If Slack is available on your plan, you can route Outercite alert notifications to a Slack channel. Your team then sees citation changes, competitor surges, and lost citations in the same place they work, without needing to check Outercite manually.

How it works
Outercite has a notification routing layer that lets you direct alerts to different destinations. Email notifications are available by default. Where your plan includes external channel routing, you can add a Slack destination so that the same alert fires in a channel of your choice.
Slack routing availability depends on your plan. If you do not see a Slack option in your connector or notification settings, check your plan or contact support.
The routing does not require a full Slack app installation in every case. The exact setup method depends on what your plan enables. Check Settings > Connectors or Settings > Notifications to see the options available for your workspace.
Which alerts can route to Slack
The following alert types can be routed to an external channel where routing is enabled:
| Alert type | What triggers it |
|---|---|
| New citation | A verified citation is detected for one of your keywords |
| Lost citation | A citation that was previously confirmed is no longer appearing |
| Competitor surge | A competitor's citation rate increases sharply on a tracked keyword |
| Visibility score change | Your overall visibility score moves by a notable amount |
You configure which alert types fire and at what threshold from Settings > Notifications.
Setting up Slack routing
- Go to Settings > Connectors in your Outercite workspace.
- Look for a Slack or external channel option. If it is available for your plan, follow the connection prompt to authorise the channel.
- Once connected, go to Settings > Notifications to choose which alert types route to that Slack channel.
- Send a test alert to confirm messages are arriving in the right channel.
Route alerts to a channel your team actually monitors. A high-volume keyword set can generate frequent notifications. Consider creating a dedicated Outercite alerts channel rather than routing into a general channel.
Managing notification volume
Not every alert needs to go to Slack. A common approach:
- Route lost citations and competitor surge alerts to Slack for immediate visibility.
- Keep informational citation confirmations as email-only so the Slack channel stays actionable.
You can adjust routing at any time from your notification settings without losing the Slack connector configuration.
