Connecting Google Search Console (GSC) gives you a side-by-side view of classic organic search performance and AI citation activity in one place. It takes a few minutes to set up and requires no ongoing maintenance once connected.

Why connect Google Search Console?
Outercite tracks your citation rate across six AI engines: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI, Grok, and DeepSeek. GSC adds the traditional Google search layer, so you can answer questions like:
- Is a drop in AI citation rate also showing up as a drop in organic clicks, or is it isolated?
- Which keywords rank well in Google but have a low AI citation rate? Those are often your highest-value AEO (answer engine optimisation) opportunities.
- Where your AI visibility score is strong, does organic traffic reflect it?
The connection is read-only. Outercite can see your impressions, clicks, and average position, but cannot make any changes to your Google account or Search Console settings.
What data flows in
After connection and the initial sync, the following GSC metrics appear in Outercite alongside your AI citation data:

GSC queries that do not match a saved Outercite keyword appear in a separate section, which can surface new keyword ideas.
There is typically a 2-3 day lag in GSC data due to Google's own processing. This is a Google limitation, not an Outercite one.

You need Owner or Full User access to the GSC property in your Google account. Restricted User access does not provide the permissions needed for data import.
Keeping the connection healthy
GSC data syncs every 24 hours. If the connection breaks, the Integrations screen will show a warning and a Reconnect button. Changing the connected GSC property requires disconnecting and reconnecting; historical imported data is cleared on disconnect.
